York City have refuted suggestions that boss Colin Walker has been axed and that former manager Denis Smith is set for a sensational return to the Kit-Kat Crescent hot seat.
The Minstermen have lost three successive league games in Blue Square Premier, the latest a 1-0 defeat at Cambridge on Tuesday and suggestions were rife yesterday that Walker had been axed with former manager Smith set to return.

Sixty-one-year old Smith, pictured, managed York between 1982 and 1987 but City communications and community director Sophie McGill quashed the rumours and said Walker will be in charge for Sunday's hosting of Crawley Town.

"The board has not sacked Colin Walker so the rumours are untrue," said McGill.

"Colin Walker is the manager of York City and the club has not been in discussions with Denis."

York are currently 15th in Blue Square Premier – 10 points off the play-off places but just eight points clear of the drop zone.
