Seven people were arrested in the first day of a five-day long police operation to target drug dealers, burglars and other criminals in north west Leeds.
Operation Cleansweep is targeting around 50 suspects across five different Neighbourhood Policing areas.

Overseen by Chief Insp Paul Money, the first day's action saw police armed with search warrants issued under the Misuse of Drugs Act and other legislation move in on addresses in Hyde Park and Woodhouse.

Searchers from the West Yorkshire Police operational support unit backed up by specialist entry teams supported the raiding parties who moved in at breakfast time.

At one house in Hall Grove, Hyde Park, officers with a drugs warrant arrested a 31-year-old man on suspicion of possession of cannabis. At another address in nearby Holborn Walk, another drugs warrant was executed. No drugs were found, but two men aged 29 and 25 and a 33-year-old woman were arrested for alleged assault.

At another location where a drugs warrant was used, two men aged 42 and 59 were arrested for dishonestly obtaining electrcity. The 42-year-old from Barnsley was also being sought in connection with an assault in South Yorkshire. Also during the raids a 27-year-old woman from the Sheffield area was arrested for breach of bail.

During the week automatic number plate recognition cameras are also to be used to pick up on suspect vehicles being used by criminals to frustrate their movements.
