Historic Pontefract buildings are restored after help from grant scheme
An extensive programme of work at 11 to 13 Gillygate, which includes Working Jeweller shop, has meant repairs to the front and back of the building, including roof works, a new shop front, new windows and signage.
The Pontefract Townscape Heritage Initiative (THI) is jointly funded by Wakefield Council and the Heritage Lottery Fund and targets buildings with architectural and historic features.

The Gillygate building is the eighteenth to be restored through the scheme, with more buildings in the town centre to be spruced up this summer.
Coun Pat Garbutt, chair of the THI Grants Board, said: “I’m so pleased to see these wonderful buildings fully restored and it’s great knowing this programme is making a real difference and is helping to improve the town centre.
“The work that has been carried out is a very high standard. It is very positive news that these important buildings can be enjoyed now and in the future by residents, businesses and visitors to our historic town.”
Various other buildings are being restored.
