She said: "Please be aware that in the Morley area (including at the White Rose Shopping Centre) there have been reports of counterfeit £5 and £20 notes in circulation.

"Please report any issues involving counterfit currency."

The new £20 note was released on February 20 and is said to be the 'most secure' banknote yet.

The note comes with security features including a hologram which switches between the words “twenty” and “pounds” as the note is titled and a silver foil patch containing a 3D image of the coronation crown.

Anyone aware of fake notes in circulation should contact West Yorkshire Police on 101.
