Strike action that threatened to black out houses and businesses in Leeds has been halted.
Around 650 electricians, fitters and engineers at CE Electric UK in Yorkshire balloted for a seven day walk out over pay that was due to start tomorrow.

However, "fruitful" negotiations has led union bosses to postpone action while they try to come to a suitable agreement, said Kevan Parker, of Unite the Union.

He told the Yorkshire Evening Post that on August 27 around 95 per cent of employees had voted in favour of the strike, yet the dispute has since been suspended.

A strike would mean no staff to fix faults for 3.7m customers, both residential and business.

While contractors would have been on hand to step in, a CE Electric spokesman previously admitted there would be unavoidable delays in getting power back on.

An agreement is expected later today.
