COCKTAIL king Keenan Wong will be putting Tom Cruise to shame this weekend as he mixes it up Down Under in the Cocktail World Cup.
The 26-year-old from Kirkstall will jet off to Queenstown, New Zealand on Sunday as part of a trio of cocktail mastercraftsmen representing the north of England.

Keenan, who has honed his skills working at the Boutique bar in Leeds city centre, will join two teammates from Manchester who already proved themselves the best in the business in the northern heats.

And Keenan says his team are planning a secret surprise battle plan in their bid to swipe the title away from the other 39 competitors.

He told the YEP: "We have come up with a theme that we are going to use that's really unusual. We're playing our cards close to our chests and we can't say what it is or what drinks we are going to mix but we're hoping it will impress the judges."

But before the team even get to mix any drinks, they will have to go through with a daredevil bungee jump to prove they have the guts for glory.

Keenan said: "The jump is to make it fun and to prove you have what it takes – they are into all their extreme sports down there.

"If anyone decides they can't go through with it, they may not even get to make any cocktails!"

Judges at Keenan's heat were impressed with his Flying Dutchman cocktail which includes shots of kiwi-fruit flavour vodka, guava juice, pear liqueur, caster sugar and lime juice.

He has been working at Boutique, on Hirst's Yard since it opened three years ago.

Contestants in the World Cup will have to mix cocktail-making and technical expertise with other adventures including jet-boat martini shaking, cosmo bungee-jumping and mountain top mojito muddling.

Then they will face off in a grand final when bartenders are put through their paces by 'Vodka Professor' Jacob Briars in front of thousands of spectators.
